Doing a bit of a repair on an old garden seat, Decided I would dowel the new front and back frame and avoid using screws,  All went well until I got to attaching the seat bit, to the rest of it.  Decided I should use a bigger dowel, Off to local builders merchants and bought 15mm dowel.  After I got it home I realised I hadnt got a 15mm drill bit.   Back to Builders Merchants, they stock 12mm and 16mm !  Assistant suggested I sand it out.    I pointed out politely, they sold me the bloody dowel, Why dont they stock drill bits to suit.

Grandad, maybe put the social media down and stop racially abusing people ok?
Although I realise accusations of racism is a bit childish when I cant prove them. But cut me some slack here,

Out tonight with the family, Our daughters birthday.
Went to the Royal at Kirkby Lonsdale.
Staff were great, helpful and friendly.
Most of the family had pizzas, I chose the Goan fish curry.
Very nice but a distinct lack of curry.
Never mind. I will go fo something else next time.

Waiting for the others

One of the things I do is share twitter feeds to a local website, So I look for what i think will effect the locals and visitors to our town and refeed it on the Town website.
One of the feeds I follow is by the local rail company,  Cancellations, Breakdowns etc.
This morning one of the conductors posted that someone called Stuart Forster had complained on twitter about the delay to his journey caused by someone being killed on the line.
His message was along the lines of " Push the body out of the way, I am running late. "
Fair to say that some people pointed out how callous he was and he seems to have deleted the tweet.
His website is http://go-eat-do.com  In case you felt like discussing this with him.
There are some real tossers out there !

Message has gone.

I have been reading lots on twitter about men who identify as women competing in women's athletics.
In my opinion that is a rather stupid idea.
How would you expect someone of 6 stone and 5ft tall to stand a chance against 6ft 3 of muscle and bone.
Then I found the image below, so I stole it.

Feeling a little obsolete, Dad is taking Flopsy to school this week... Missing great conversations with a ten year old.
Mind you, I shall have to get used to it, because in the not to distant future she will change schools and go by bus.
Starting with her big brother I have been taking my grandkids to and from school most days for close to ten years.
Dont they grow up fast ?   I shall miss it.

I had a trial account with audible, The app that reads the story to you.
Unsure of what book to choose, I  eventually picked
"Unseen Academicals." by Terry Pratchet.
Really enjoyed it, I had never read or listened to any of his stuff before.
I looked on Kindle for more and although I knew he was a prolific writer, I didnt know how prolific.
Now being the owner of an Amazon Alexa, We have joked in our family that Alexa is always listening and pushes adverts at you for things you mentioned in passing.
Well, tonight on my telly appears a programme on, Yup,
Terry Pratchet.
A fascinating insight into a very talented man and also a very emotional and sad ending.
Thank you serendipity, or Alexa or even Sir Terry Pratchet.

Just seen a couple of my contacts are using signal
https://signal.org
as a messenger app,  Looks nice and neat.
I have been looking and playing with some of the more secure apps that are not owned by the "big boys".  My apologies if that is sexist.
I like Telegram myself.
I use one account as a bit of another blog https://t.me/stannards  and another as a personal messenger.
I am really impressed with Briar. peer to peer.  Love the idea. Plus the updated version allows you to send the link to add a contact.
You can get all of these from google play or apkpure and I think fdroid as well.
Mind you, while we are all clinging to facebook and twitter there aint much hope is there?

Tried Britbox uk, read a review that said the bbc and itv had launched a new pay per view service, so I thought I would take a look.
They offer a  free month but want your card details first.
What they dont tell you is they dont have an app or an apk to load onto your smart telly.
So you can only watch on your phone or pc.
I had to watch on firefox. I chose the ipcress file with michael caine.
It needed three refreshes to start, repeatedly flagged up " Unable to play your video" and froze twice for at least a minute. I think it needs some work.
But it might provide an alternative over Christmas, Sit in the corner with headphones and ignore the relations !
